Protocol is a code of conduct, a procedural formality, and etiquette, a polite method of social interaction. In their combined context, acceptable standards of orderly behavior based in considerate manner and demeanor that help create a comfortable atmosphere for those around you and in turn for yourself.
In an extended context of meaning..., manners are the prelude, the basis of considerate interaction - kindnesses, if you will, which over time become practice or expectation otherwise known as etiquette. From etiquette, evolves protocol - the most formal and official rule/procedure usually based in deference towards others and generally reserved for business/official/ceremonial purposes of efficiency and expediency.
Some people may say it is pretense, it is putting on airs.... This is not the purpose or intent nor should it be perceived or practiced with this motive in mind, but rather quite the contrary.
It is about common sense.... It is about thoughtful consideration... It is about others and you...!
